Abortion Rights Turned Over to the States—Roe Over
Fascism took a dark turn today as the Supreme Court essentially overturned Roe v. Wade. It will now be up the the 50 states to control women’s rights over their bodies. I was watching the Today Show this AM when they broke in with the news. The ‘leaked’ decision, (S. Alito) in April I believe, was mostly left intact. They are now using religion to pave the way for a new dark ages of reproductive restrictions and from the US map up on the screen it looks like close to half the states will severely restrict, or outright ban all abortions.
Note: I just started reading “Red Clocks”, by Leni Zumas, Monday, where the US has criminalized abortions—I should have started it last week before today’s decision. I’m about a 100 pages in on a 400 page novel. So far it’s not as dark as Margaret Atwood’s, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, a totalitarian nightmare. The Hulu series is spectacularly dark.
My state of New Mexico had made an effort to keep abortion rights on the books permanently. We will be a “choice” haven between Texas—which has already banned abortions— and, soon to be Arizona, I think. Colorado seems to be on the “blue” side of the law as well.
Questions?
My big question(s): Who’s supposed to pay for forced births? What about prenatal care? Who is liable for the hospital charges especially if the infant needs critical care for an early delivery? Who’s supposed to pay for all the criminals that will be born because they are neglected by folks that should never reproduce in the first place? Are we soon to have contraception repealed as well? Is the state now liable for all the extra kids because they are abandoned by those not wanting to be saddled with a kid for life? Who will pay the 3/4 of a million dollars while they mature until 18? Also, Earth is severely overpopulated; so why the added burden of extra, unwanted mouths to feed as production of crops decline in a rapidly heating world? There are many more questions but these are some key points.
Women, after many years of relative reproductive freedom are headed back to the dark ages of fascism of the pre-’73 times of coat hangers in dingy back alleys, or worse.
Now I’m a male that never had to decide whether to terminate a pregnancy but I made certain that I never fathered a kid. And I made that decision the same year that Roe became the new paradigm of the land—1973. I was 19. My view is that women need the absolute freedom to make their own decision as to how to handle a pregnancy. And I want to give them the right for a late-term termination too. In fact I tried to find out how early an infant can survive without hospital care—like in the deep woods, for example. I didn’t find an answer. I’m guessing at least 32 weeks. If women don’t want to terminate—for whatever reason—then don’t; but don’t force your views on others. Men have no right at all to dictate what a woman does with her body. The Supreme Court turned this right into an authoritarian rigor of absolute control over to the state. This is fascism. Repeat, this is fascism. I wrote about Texas earlier this year when they went full dictator and made everybody a secret spy to rat on their neighbors, and banned abortions. Six weeks is a ban. Jail time is fascism. Turning neighbors into spies is fascist.
I was definitely feeling blue this AM. I also have to now mail my rent check to Florida!!?? How long does it take a check to get to Florida from New Mexico? If it’s late I get hit with an outrageous late charge. It’s like a dark cloud drifted overhead and started a slow smother on our lives. I will pick up with what’s to become of the EU tomorrow. My original topic(war, the EU) before the bombs stared dropping from the Supreme Court and destroying the rights of millions of women. Dark indeed.
Nightmares
Dystopia is another term that comes to mind. Creeping totalitarianism. Waking up screaming from a nightmare that never ends. Tomorrow? The dream will be a few more notches toward the dark side of despair. More screaming. More starving children that shouldn’t be here in the first place. Less food availability. Just once I’d like to see lawmakers think things through before they put pen to paper. If I was still paying taxes I wouldn’t want my money going to idiocy. Oops! I didn’t want my tax money going to war when I was working. We all know how that turned out—still. So much for imbecility. It’s a good thing that TV screens aren’t two-way windows. There would be lots of attempted strangulations.
I just had to get that heavy dose of fascism off my chest. Again, if a woman doesn’t want a termination, by all means, enjoy your new family member. Just don’t impose a certain type of morality on others. Keep it private. Twitter or TikTok wasn’t invented to shout to the world a very private matter. Certainly use the platforms if you want to let the world to know of a pending arrival. Enough of that. Time for some reading.
Lastly, be kind and stay safe. Let this new paradigm settle in. Because you can bet the bank this will be the law of the land for many years.
Peace, The Ol’ Hippy

Friday~Dark Ages
It will be very interesting to see how people vote regarding the murder of unborn children. It is quite a stretch to call the decision of the Federal Government to allow states to decide whether these murders continue "totalitarianism". I am no expert in the law; but I question whether the United States was a dystopia before the illegal decision in 1973. While all the fanatics are dusting off their pussy hats and rushing to destroy cities, it seems that everyone has forgotten the easy availability of contraception and of the "morning after" pill. To watch the loons on the evening news tearing out their hair and bawling at the horrible idea that they might not be able to have unprotected sex at every moment is to watch the fall of a civilization.
A simple solution to all this hysteria would be to make fathers of bastards responsible for their children's care and upbringing. In a generation, we might once again have a moral and responsible society.
